A beta-reader will read your pages as you write them, offering first impressions of your characters, plot, and writing style. Submit new pages at your convenience, or on weekly or monthly deadlines.

After you read these notes, we'll talk about techniques, adjustments, and solutions that can resolve any concerns. Know that this process can take several steps. Once you've received the editor's notes, you'll need to cut, rearrange, and re-write. An editor's job to provide support, positive feedback, tools, and encouragement. You'll also hear what's really beautiful, inspired, unique, and interesting about your work!

Line & Copy Editing
Line by line, we are looking at your manuscript to make sure each word, sentence, and paragraph is carrying its weight, makes sense, and sounds really compelling. We're focused on the language itself, including style and readability.
You will receive:
Extensive in-line notation that addresses language, style, and sentence structure. Suggestions that can be accepted or rejected will be made directly to the text.
Margin notes detailing the editor’s reactions and suggestions for expansion or deletion.
Critique of imagery, tone, and voice.
E-mail communication throughout, asking for clarification.
Once you've received the editor's notes, you'll want to go through, sentence by sentence and accept or reject the editor's changes. "Kill your darlings" is a popular expression for a reason--it's true! We'll ask you to remove sentences or images that you absolutely adore but just aren't working. Ultimately, those decisions are yours to make.

STEP 4: clean up
Proofing and Formatting
During the copy editing and line editing stage, we went through your manuscript and diligently refined your language--how your text sounded overall. Proofing is a final read to make sure all of the changes you've accepted and denied went through smoothly. Formatting is preparing the document to be read by agents and publishers.
